SEOUL, Sept 12 — Chaeyoung of K-pop girl group TWICE has released her first solo studio album, Lil Fantasy vol. 1, marking her debut as an individual artist.
According to Yonhap News Agency, she is the fourth member of the band to go solo, following Nayeon, Jihyo and Tzuyu.
“I filled the album with my tastes, thoughts and attitude,” Chaeyoung said through her agency JYP Entertainment, describing it as “an album that shows everything that makes up the person Chaeyoung.”
The rapper likened the release to opening a treasure chest she had been filling over time.
“This is a work I’ve been slowly preparing for a long time, and I hope many people will listen to it,” she added.
The 10-track album features the lead single Shoot (Firecracker) and Avocado, which includes a collaboration with Japanese pop band Gliiico.
JYP said the lead track highlights Chaeyoung’s bold ambitions with a catchy melody.
“I thought it would be nice if the lead track was a song you could dance to,” she explained.
“It contains the message, ‘Let’s set off firecrackers together and enjoy the party,’ so it’s also a song that celebrates the album’s release.”
Chaeyoung recently contributed to the soundtrack of Netflix’s hit animated film KPop Demon Hunters, performing a version of Takedown with fellow TWICE members Jihyo and Jeongyeon.
Last month, TWICE kicked off a new world tour following the release of its fourth full-length album This Is For.
The group also headlined Lollapalooza Chicago, performing hits such as Dance the Night Away and What Is Love?
“Both participating in Takedown and performing at Lollapalooza Chicago were new challenges and great opportunities,” Chaeyoung said.
“It was so rewarding to see such a huge reaction from the fans, and I feel so lucky to be able to show them my first solo album now.”
