KUALA LUMPUR, May 15 — Anugerah Juara Lagu (AJL) winner Aizat Amdan has returned with a new single, Ajar Aku (Teach Me), blending soulful pop with post-hardcore influences.
This time, the Hanya Kau Yang Mampu singer collaborates with local post-hardcore band Sekumpulan Orang Gila (SOG), with Yuna featuring on the track.
The single, centred on themes of ego, acceptance and growth, was born from a spontaneous songwriting session during Aizat’s Dari Studio podcast in May last year, where SOG appeared as guests.
“We started by talking about music, our artistic journeys and experiences in the industry.
“During the podcast session itself, we slowly began building ideas and eventually Ajar Aku was created organically from that moment,” Aizat said.
Another highlight of the project is Yuna’s involvement, with the singer not only lending her vocals to the track but also contributing to the music video’s art direction.
The music video was directed by Yuna’s husband, Adam Sinclair, who previously collaborated with her on videos including Forevermore, Castaway featuring Tyler the Creator, and Bad Intentions.
According to Aizat, Yuna happened to be working on material for her upcoming album at Kasi Gegar Entertainment’s studio in Taman Tun Dr Ismail while the song was being recorded after Aizat’s brother, Anas Amdan, introduced the track to her.

Yuna said she was immediately drawn to the song after hearing its demo version, which featured an AI-generated female version of Aizat’s vocals.
“So they used the AI version of Aizat’s voice and I am against anything AI.
“I actually told them, ‘Don’t use AI, just use me okay’.
“And I recorded the song with them and Alhamdulillah, it is a beautiful song and I am so happy that it’s out now,” she said.
Aizat said Yuna’s involvement gave the song a more honest and emotional feel.
Interestingly, the collaboration also brought together three AJL winners on a single track.
SOG won AJL in 2022 with Pelukan Angkasa, featuring Shila Amzah.
Aizat won the competition in 2009 with Pergi, cementing his status as one of the country’s leading singer-songwriters.
Meanwhile, Yuna won AJL in 2012 with Terukir Di Bintang, which was notably performed by Aizat during the grand finale while she was in the United States at the time.
Ajar Aku featuring SOG and Yuna will be available on all streaming platforms from May 15, while its music video premieres the same day at 9pm.
