KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 25 — Chinese menswear brand CABBEEN is ramping up its presence in Malaysia with plans to open at least nine new stores nationwide within the next two years, following the launch of its latest outlet at Sunway Velocity Mall in Kuala Lumpur last month.
The expansion comes as the label staged a striking fashion show over the weekend at a harbour in Shishi, Fujian province, marking the grand opening of Quanzhou Fashion Week.
The event, titled Across Mountains and Seas, Born with the Tide, featured a 150-metre runway built on the coastal town’s breakwater, blending the sea breeze and cultural heritage of Xiangzhi with CABBEEN’s latest designs.
Brand founder and designer Yang Ziming, better known as Mr Cabbeen, described the show as “a dialogue with my hometown.”
“Every outdoor show carries challenges, but it also offers an irreplaceable natural allure — the sunset, the sea breeze, the shimmer of the water. These are atmospheres no indoor stage can replicate,” he told China Daily.
The show, directed by Xiao Xiangrong, also carried symbolic meaning. Four suitcases on the runway represented milestones in CABBEEN’s journey — its founding in 1997, its international debut in 2004, its role in China’s National Day parade in 2019, and a forward-looking “declaration” for 2025.

A glowing yellow CABBEEN logo was projected onto an ancient lighthouse by the harbour, symbolising guidance for voyagers and light for those returning home.

For the occasion, CABBEEN Malaysia invited a group of journalists from Kuala Lumpur to Fujian, where they also toured the brand’s stores in Xiamen and its factory in Shishi.
In Malaysia, the brand entered the market with its first store at Pavilion Bukit Jalil before expanding to Sunway Velocity Mall last month. CABBEEN said the outlets represent not just retail growth but a cultural commitment to blending Chinese street fashion with Malaysia’s multicultural spirit.
A CABBEEN Malaysia spokesperson said the label aims to create “a distinctive identity for the modern Asian man” by combining original Chinese design with insights from the local market.
CABBEEN, founded in 1997, operates more than 650 stores across China and has previously showcased collections at fashion weeks in New York and London.
Its menswear, priced between RM300 and RM800, is known for architectural tailoring, statement embroidery and a fusion of traditional Chinese elements such as calligraphy and dragon motifs with global streetwear trends.
