KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 29 — Malaysian actor Shasha Abedul has repeatedly proven her versatility, bringing a wide range of characters to life on screen — from Aulia in Kau vs Aku and Jannah in Projek: Exit to leading roles in films such as Hani and the upcoming Astro Shaw production Malam Terlarang.
At the gala premiere of Malam Terlarang yesterday at GSC Mid Valley, Shasha told Malay Mail what makes her latest role unique.
“I’m used to playing characters like school students, but this one (Malam Terlarang) has an age range I haven’t explored much before,” she sa
“In this story, Mawar is 18 years old, just out of school. What got me interested in this script is that they don’t just focus on the fact that she’s fresh out of school — they also emphasise her ambitions and dreams.”
On preparing for the role, she said: “To be honest, there wasn’t much preparation needed beyond understanding the script and storyline. The rest I developed on set, where I was able to dive deeper into the character. Everything else was shaped during filming. Doing it on set allows me to truly feel the environment and the real situations as they happen.”
Speaking about the challenges she faced during filming, Shasha said shooting at Paya Bakau was particularly difficult due to its dense, jungle-like surroundings.
“It was tough not just for me, but for the entire crew. Getting to Paya Bakau itself was a challenge,” she said, adding that fortunately no one was injured during the shoot.
Looking ahead, Shasha shared the kinds of roles she hopes to take on in future.
“I’d like to try action movies — that was something I wanted to do before I berhijrah (embraced a more religious lifestyle). I wanted something fierce and daring. But after berhijrah, I think I’ll take on characters that align more with my current image,” she said.
Audiences nationwide have taken notice of Shasha’s talent and are eagerly anticipating her next project.
For now, she stars in Malam Terlarang, which opens in cinemas nationwide tomorrow, October 30.
