KUALA LUMPUR, December 6 — Still figuring out what to do this weekend? How about expanding your musical knowledge, specifically on drums and percussions, while being entertained by local legendary musicians?

Yes, all of this is happening tomorrow at the Festival of Drum and Percussion Malaysia, which will take place at Dewan Seri Budiman in UiTM Shah Alam.

The whole-day drums and percussions affair will not only feature several workshops and clinics during the day, but will end with an all-stars gala concert during the evening featuring top musicians such as Datuk Zainal Abidin, XPDC, Rie Tsuji, Steve Thornton, Ujang from local rock band Exists, and more.

To top it all off, the musicians will be joined by the Orkestra Tradisional Malaysia (Malaysia Traditional Orchestra) to further elevate the evening.

Aside from that, visitors will get the chance to join in the many drum workshops and clinics available throughout the day, which will be led by talented drummers and percussionists such as Lola from XPDC, Arthur Kam, and Ujang from Exists.

There will also be a slew of solo showcases happening during the day including by Zainal Abidin, Steve Thornton, Kamrul Hussin and Sān Percussion.

Malaysian guitar hero Aznan Alias, who’s also the music director for legendary singer songwriter Datuk M. Nasir, said that the Festival of Drum and Percussion Malaysia is a golden opportunity for local music lovers.

“I’m confident that the main highlight of this festival will be the workshops and clinics taking place during the day.

“This is the perfect opportunity for audiences, music lovers and students to get the best information and they are also able to ask questions directly to these musicians at this up close and personal event.

“The festival is not featuring one but eight clinics for the public to join where they can gain knowledge and experiences,” he said.

According to renowned local arranger and keyboardist Rie Tsuji, he and a few other musicians will entertain festival goers with a cover of a traditional Japanese song Sakura along with his own rendition of the famous Imagine song by English singer John Lennon.

Tickets for the Festival of Drum and Percussion Malaysia are still available across two categories including the RM118 Gala Concert ticket that is only for the all stars gala concert, and the RM188 Festival Pass that is a whole day pass to the festival and all its activities.

More information on the festival is available on its website.
