KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 4 — Malaysia’s performing arts scene is set for a major leap forward with Kantha Puranam – An Immersive Mythicon, a Broadway-scale theatrical production that fuses Tamil heritage with cutting-edge digital technology.
The teaser for the ambitious production was unveiled on October 18 at the Agenda Suria Deepavali Carnival in Bukit Jalil, marking a milestone moment for the country’s creative industry.
The launch was attended by Smt. Vijayalakshmy Sunderrajan, Director of the Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Indian Cultural Centre (NSCBICC), who officiated the event as Guest of Honour alongside her spouse.
Also present were Agenda Suria Communications managing director and performing arts patron Jaggarao Simancha, Mythicon Studios director and Malaysian Performing Arts Society creative director Anil Shatrian, and Dr. Sivabalan from Thrive Talent Tank.
The ceremony opened with a red-carpet welcome accompanied by live bagpipes and dhol, symbolising the fusion of tradition, honour and celebration.

Bringing together more than 150 cast and crew members, the production seeks to position Malaysia among the world’s most technologically advanced performing arts hubs.
“This production is not just a show — it’s a movement,” said Shatrian during the launch.
“We want to take Malaysian artistry and Tamil literature to the global stage by blending mythology with innovation.”
The event also celebrated the longstanding artistic ties between India and Malaysia, described by Sunderrajan as “a creative bridge between two civilisations bound by shared heritage and evolving expression.”
Among the evening’s highlights was the official teaser reveal, which drew enthusiastic applause for its cinematic visuals and emotional impact.
Guests also witnessed a special on-stage tribute to Simancha for his continuous support of Malaysia’s performing arts community.
Beyond theatre, the production also features a rare exhibition of the 64 classical Tamil arts (Arupathu Naalu Kalai), showcasing centuries-old traditions reinterpreted through modern creativity.
Mythicon Studios said the project also represents the first-ever digital visual documentation of the entire Kantha Puranam across six chapters — preserving the sacred literary work for future generations through technology and devotion.
Looking ahead, Shatrian invited corporate partners and cultural patrons to join in bringing the production to its full potential.
“We envision Kantha Puranam – An Immersive Mythicon not just as a performance, but as a national cultural legacy that showcases Malaysia’s creative excellence to the world,” he said.
