KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 22 — Mandopop veteran Emil Chau has made Malaysia his second home — literally.
During his concert in Kuala Lumpur on October 18, the 64-year-old singer-songwriter surprised fans by revealing that he had bought a house in the country, Sin Chew Daily reported.
“I’ve always wanted a house here since I was young,” Chau told the cheering crowd.
“Back then, I told myself, when I grow up one day, I’m going to buy a house here. After so many years, no salesperson ever came to me. Even so, I’ve bought one already.”
Chau, who’s known for timeless hits like Friends and Flower Heart, said that since owning a home in Malaysia, he no longer feels like an outsider when chatting with local fans.
“Who knows, maybe you live right next door to me! I may bump into you while buying groceries,” he joked, drawing laughter from the audience.
He also thanked concert organisers for their warm hospitality — and teased that he always gains weight whenever he visits Malaysia. His must-eat local favourites? Bak kut teh and pig stomach pepper soup.
A household name across the Mandopop scene since the 1980s, Chau first made his mark by penning theme songs for beloved martial arts dramas such as The Legend of the Condor Heroes and Demi-Gods and Semi-Devils. His sentimental ballads and soothing voice later earned him enduring popularity throughout Asia.
Chau was in Kuala Lumpur as part of his concert tour, where fans were treated to a night of nostalgia — and an unexpected housewarming announcement from the legend himself.
