LOS ANGELES, Aug 28 — Jake Reiner has spoken publicly for the first time about the deaths of his parents, filmmaker Rob Reiner and Michele Reiner, who were murdered at their Los Angeles home in December.
The Hollywood Reporter reported that the 34-year-old discussed his grief and his father’s legacy in an interview with ABC 7 Los Angeles that aired on Thursday.
“Nobody really understands what it’s like to go through something like that until you’re living it,” he was quoted as saying.
“It’s been eight months. It feels like eight years at the same time. And it also feels like eight minutes. Because every moment that I wake up, I’m reminded of my reality.”
Jake said his sister Romy, 28, found their father’s body at the couple’s Brentwood home on December 14 before telling him that she could not locate their mother.
Their younger brother Nick, who had been staying in a guest house on the property, was subsequently arrested and charged with two counts of first-degree murder, with the special circumstance of multiple murders.
Nick has pleaded not guilty and is being held pending trial, while both Jake and Romy reportedly testified before the grand jury that indicted him.
Jake declined to discuss the criminal case in detail, saying only xxxrage
“[Nick]’s in jail. It’s like, I physically lost my parents, and then Nick was arrested. Now it’s just me and Romy, and we have to navigate this by ourselves essentially,” Jake said.
Nick’s pretrial hearing is scheduled for September 15.
