LONDON, Oct 7 — The UK’s ruling Conservative Party has been left red-faced after handing out chocolate bars at its annual conference bearing the slogan: “When Labour negotiates, Britian loses.”
The Sun reported that the misspelling of “Britain” on the blue-wrapped confectionery sparked ridicule online, with social media users poking fun at the gaffe. One quipped: “I’m hearing Wispas about Kemi’s leadership.”
The chocolates — signed by party leader Kemi Badenoch — were included in goodie bags distributed at the Manchester conference, alongside a mock copy of Reform UK’s manifesto and a fake CV for Labour’s Rachel Reeves, the report added.
Organisers have blamed a “printing error” and have since removed the misprinted treats from circulation.
The blunder comes as Badenoch struggles to revive her party’s poor poll numbers. She opened the conference on Sunday with a keynote address and is expected to deliver another on Wednesday.
Spelling slip-ups are not confined to the Conservatives. In April, Scottish Labour came under fire after leaflets misspelt “Scottish” as “Scotish” in a by-election campaign.
And in 2024, Reform UK MP Lee Anderson’s campaign flyers referred to him as “Lee Andersin”, an error he appeared unaware of when posting videos of himself distributing them in Nottinghamshire.
