The dog did it: US cops stunned after pet allegedly fires shotgun outside convenience store, injures woman

LINCOLN, May 27 — A routine police call straight out of a Hollywood crime thriller took a bizarre turn in the US state of Nebraska — after officers discovered the “shooter” was allegedly a dog.

Police in the town of Scottsbluff rushed to a convenience store after reports of a shotgun blast yesterday, expecting a potentially dangerous armed incident.

Instead, they found a damaged truck, a woman nursing an arm injury — and a very unlikely suspect sitting in the back seat.

According to local broadcaster KNOP News 2, investigators later concluded the shotgun had accidentally discharged after a dog moved across the back seat of the vehicle.

The animal somehow managed to trigger the firearm, which reportedly had a ‘live’ round already chambered.

The blast tore through part of the truck door before a shotgun pellet struck a female passerby in the arm.

Thankfully, the woman’s injuries were not believed to be serious, although she was taken to hospital for treatment.

The strange incident has since sparked disbelief online, with many comparing it to scenes from slapstick action movies.

Authorities also noted that Nebraska law prohibits motorists from driving around with a loaded shotgun inside a vehicle.

No details were immediately released about the breed of the dog or whether any charges would follow over the firearm being loaded.
