HONG KONG, Nov 2 — Veteran Hong Kong actor Stanley Fung Shui-fan died at the age of 81 yesterday, according to a Facebook post by TVB Entertainment News.
The post included a tribute from longtime friend Tsang Sing-ming, former deputy director of publicity at TVB’s corporate communications division, who wrote, “Painfully mourning my dear friend Kwan Gor — Fung Shui-fan, rest in peace! Forever remembered.”
Fung was widely known for his roles in classic Hong Kong comedies such as Lucky Stars Go Places and The Best Partners, earning acclaim as a deadpan comedian who brought joy to generations of audiences.
Just days before his death, Fung posted a tribute to fellow actor Benz Hui, who had died earlier that week, writing: “Wait for me on the other side, dear brother. Your foolish elder will follow soon.”
Tsang confirmed the timing in his own post, saying Fung had recently expressed sorrow over Hui’s passing and reflected on aging and mortality.
Born in Guangdong, Fung was a prominent figure in Hong Kong cinema during the 1980s and 1990s, starring in hits like My Lucky Stars, Lucky Stars Go Places, The Best Partners and The Romancing Star.
His comedic catchphrases became part of Hong Kong pop culture and remain fondly remembered by fans.
In May, Fung revealed on social media that he had been hospitalised for two months due to poor health and was relying on an oxygen machine.
