KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 18 — Celebrating a decade of explosive action and record-breaking success, the Polis EVO franchise marked its 10th anniversary last night at Suria KLCC with a star-studded event that honoured its past and unveiled a surprising new future.
The event was attended by lead stars Shaheizy Sam and Zizan Razak — who portray the iconic duo Inspector Khai and Inspector Sani — alongside other cast members, directors, and the creative trio behind the franchise, Joel Soh, Anwari Ashraf, and Kyle Goonting.
“I never expected that when we all got together and made that one film, it would turn into what it is today,” said Soh.
For Shaheizy Sam, the bond forged over the decade transcends work.
“It’s no longer just friends or fans — it feels like family,” he said. “This success belongs to all of us, from the first film in 2015 until now.”
He added that he is ready to continue playing the character, believing the franchise has the potential to reach Polis EVO 10.
Zizan Razak shared his disbelief at how quickly the time has passed.
“I didn’t expect it to be 10 years — it still feels so recent,” he said.
“Polis EVO is one of my favourite films, and it’s the one that helped people believe I could really act.”

Polis EVO universe expands: Surprise ‘Mat Yam’ spin-off announced
While fans already knew that Polis EVO 4 and other projects like Evo Academy and Reza were in the pipeline, the night ended with a major surprise: the announcement of a brand-new Astro Original series titled Evo: Mat Yam.
The series will centre on the fan-favourite character Mat Yam, played by acclaimed actor Amerul Affendi, whose standout performance in the original 2015 film gained him a cult following.
“I was shocked when I heard the news. Maybe after 10 years, the audience wants the character of Mat Yam to return,” said Amerul.
“I’ll carry this responsibility and bring the character of Mat Yam back to the audience.”
Since its debut in 2015, Polis EVO has made history as Malaysia’s only local film franchise to sustain box office dominance for a full decade.
The original film was the nation’s top movie of 2015, earning RM17.8 million.
Its 2018 sequel raked in RM22.45 million, and the latest instalment in 2023 grossed RM54 million, making it one of the top five highest-grossing Malaysian films of all time.
Raja Jastina Raja Arshad, Head of Astro Shaw, praised the franchise’s impact.

“Remaining relevant for 10 years as a franchise is no small feat. Polis EVO has evolved, grown, and become a game changer by setting new benchmarks for Malaysian cinema,” she said, crediting the “unwavering support” of the fans.
Beyond its on-screen success, the franchise has also been a launchpad for new writers, directors, and actors, helping to shape a new generation of Malaysian film talent.
Jastina affirmed that this 10th anniversary is not an end, but a new beginning.
“This anniversary is not the end but the beginning of a new chapter,” she concluded.
