SEOUL, May 25 — Three years after their explosive debut, K-pop girl group Le Sserafim are returning with their second full-length album, Pureflow Pt. 1, a project that re-examines the very concept that launched their careers: being fearless.
Released on May 22, the 11-track album, led by the Latin-infused single “Boompala,” sees the quintet evolve from declaring their fearlessness to embracing fear as a necessary part of growth.
“Until now, we kept shouting ‘fearless’ and saying that we had no fear,” explained member Huh Yunjin in a recent interview with The Korea Herald.
“But now, we feel that accepting anxiety and fear can actually make us stronger. In that sense, this album opens a new chapter in how we look at fear.”
This new philosophy is captured in the album’s central message: “For we are not fearless, and therefore powerful.”
The members said that the album was the fruit of their journey and a deeper creative involvement.
“With our first LP, it felt like we were only looking ahead,” said Kazuha. “But with this album, we really enjoyed the creative process while thinking more in depth about the kind of image we wanted to show.”
The lead single, “Boompala,” samples the iconic 1993 hit “Macarena,” a choice that member Sakura said gave them confidence.
Yunjin added that the vibrant Latin house sound was a perfect match for the positive energy they wanted to share with their fans, known as Fearnot.
The album also marks new creative milestones, with Kazuha contributing to songwriting for the first time on the track “Trust Exercise.”
Le Sserafim hopes their new, more vulnerable message resonates with listeners.
“Everyone has big and small fears and hardships in their lives,” said Hong Eunchae.
“I hope our team can become one that gives even a little courage and strength in those moments… I hope people can see us and feel comfort, thinking that we go through similar difficulties too.”
